Elderly parents hawk up phlegm constantly. Is this normal on a day-to-day basis?

It is difficult to listen to.

My Dad did this as a smoker. He took Robeitussin. It does effect blood pressure.

There must be something a dr can prescribe to thin out the flem.

I am assuming there is no smoking going on; this would be common for a smoker. This can also be a result of allergies. But as Xena says it can be a symptom of things more serious. I would consult their doctors if this is new.

Same. That is so disgusting! Even if they can’t help it.

My grandparents were like this. One from all the damage smoking did to his lungs; the other due to “this old bronchitis” that she evidently had for 20 years straight.

I have no advice except using noise-canceling headphones. Ugh, I can’t even think about it!

often is a symptom of congestive heart failure. My father, FIL, and aunt all have CHF and all do this especially in the afternoon and evening
