Is home care available to people living in rural areas?

Hi genieist

Here is a link that has several HH agencies listed for Duval, Wa. Call one or more of these and discuss your patients issues and see if they can help a bit in understanding the resources they provide or others they know about.

”Home health agencies provide care in your home, regardless of where their office is located. This list shows the home health agencies that serve your area, based on the location you entered in your search.”

Many aides need public transportation to get to their jobs. If they do drive, especially with the low wages caregivers receive, some won't take a job too far away from homebase.

Like someone else said, you'll have to get creative, at least at some point or another.

I live in the country but it's not a remote or isolated area and know people around me who need aides and get them. They have a tougher time sometimes, though, than those who are closer to suburbs or the city.

One man I know out here learned he has to remain a bit flexible in order to even get aides to apply, much less hire a good one. No experience necessary (will train), offers his food for their lunch and snacks, can smoke outside, will adjust his preferred schedule of care (to a point), caregivers can bring their kids (and dogs), etc. With the wrong aide, this could all go the wrong way fast, but often it works out for him.

It is, but you have to get creative and not count on corporate.

What level of care and how many hours

Some members who live in rural areas have said it is. The aide may not like to travel that far. You may be too far out for serves. All u can do is research. Call Office if Aging. Call Social Services and ask about Medicaid help. Call agencies in your area.
