My mom has worn glasses (nearsighted) and hearing aids for years. In her dementia, she's lost both. There's no way at this point that she could comply with instructions to have a new visual and hearing exam. She's just gotten enrolled in hospice and the intake nurse mentioned this is probably contributing to her withdrawal and communication issues. This has motivated me to try to find out if there are any options that might be imperfect but better than nothing. Ideas much appreciated!

OTC glasses are just readers, bifocals. If Mom only need glasses for reading no problem, but if she has other sight problems, they will not solve the problem.
They cost under 200.00 per pair.
Glasses are very dependant on her sight, not all vision can be helped with over the counter but, the old prescription could be enough to get her by. I would find the cheapest eyeglass provider possible to get them made, we have ones that will do single vision for $29.00 and bi-ficals for $39.00. Well worth researching your area.
Best of luck.
