Start with your county office of Aged and Disabilities..
They can give you guidance, suggestions, start the process. For my mom Who lived in memory care was first reviewed to see if she would qualify physically for Medicaid. Meaning the health issues. Once that was taken care of then , I was referred to specialist who would be my intake person. This person would have compiled All the financials. I was fortunate that my mom passed a couple days before we were to have the appointment regarding the financials. I was relieved , I didn’t want to go down that road… My mom almost outlived her money.
I live in Wisconsin, ADRC ...my county office name.. (I’m thinking maybe called Aged Disabilities Resource Center )
Yes, I looked this up you are in an Assited Living. The director of your AL maybe able to help. Your problem will be if the facility you are living in excepts Medicaid. In my state you pay privately for at least 2 years before you can consider Medicaid paying and then the facility has to accept Medicaid and has not hit their % of Medicaid they allow.
I was fortunate, where I place my mom , through a franchise placement company, the memory care had a contract with my placement company, that once they were excepted they would not make my mom move, or share a room if she didn’t make the one year requirement. Pure grace! My mom was going to be a couple months short of self-pay, and they took her in.

A couple of questions:
Does your current facility accept Medicaid?
Have you consulted a certified Eldercare attorney in your state?
Have you asked the business office at your current place if they can assist with the application?
