Any tips for keeping an oxygen mask in place when the patient keeps pulling it down?

This is a very nuts-and-bolts issue. Father-in-law, currently hospitalized with complications from Covid-19, is supposed to leave his oxygen mask in place at all times. Even if off for a half-minute, his oxygen level plummets. Hoping prescribed sedatives will arrive so, but does anyone have any tips, in the meantime, to stop the relentless oxygen-mask tug-of-war?

Make sure they have a humidifier on the oxygen. It dries you out and this helps make it more comfortable.

My dad wouldn't leave his on when he was dying from covid and I was told he wasn't coherent.

Thank you so much! You're spot-on about the humidification factor. For some reason, perhaps fluid buildup, the hospital is reluctant to use the humidifier, saying the oxygen "shouldn't" be drying him out. They put him back on nostril oxygen, a "high-flow" model, because he's at severity level 3 of 5 now. This is all new to me. And yes, incoherence could well be in play. I'm hoping the sedatives will help him not be so agitated and facilitate sleep.
