Mom is finally stable and showed some improvement in her memory & incontinence.. however we are not seeing her get back to walking or getting herself out of bed. (Moron neurologist tells her with her mental improvement she could go home & be on her own-*** is he thinking or trying to do- keep your OPINION to your **** self) I know if PT can't get her to at least strong enough to transfer herself from bed to chair, chair to toilet, that I will not be able to do any change of scenery other than a different facility.
We have been taking Mom out of home for movie, dinner, visits but limitied as I cannot help her out of wheelchair to use a toilet and will not risk my well being or hers to do so. I was told about a place that is supposed to be excellent care/service but its an hour from me and would likely have to see about getting on their wait list for a medicaid bed.
Is it better to see about improving living space and end up only being able to see her once a week or stay where we are in mediocre setting but I can see her 3 or 4 times a week. We facetime during the day but I can tell she is lonely- and the folks here are a little more mentally challenged than she is. Input?

Our LO's have to be allowed to acclimate themselves to their surroundings, visiting as often as you do is not, IMO the answer.
I have two in homes one AL, the other MC. They are both kept busy, have made new friends and are well cared for. My brother and I stayed away the first 3 weeks after placed to let them get settled in. We talk to them 2 times a week and visit every other week, They have their own life as do we.
Often what looks or sounds good is not what it is cracked up to be.
How much time do you spend when you see her 3 or 4 times a week?
How much time would you be able to spend if you visited 1 or 2 times a week? (and tell the truth if you visited 2 times a week, there is not much difference than if you visited 2 times for a shorter amount of time.)
I would visit the other place and see how they handle things and make a decision only after the visit.
I am there anywhere from 2-5 hours depending on the day for visit.
If I got limited to 2 days- one would be at least a 4-5 hour block for a visit.
thanks!
