I have a big desk calendar hanging above my computer. I write down what I am doing, when and where. I did not have family helping me out when I was caring for my Husband but I had each caregiver written down and their hours on each day. And I wrote down appointments, when he went on Hospice I wrote down the days the Nurse would be here, the CNA, Social Worker.... I now put appointments on my calendar on the phone but sometimes I forget to transfer info from phone to paper calendar and visa versa. Makes life interesting. Also gets me to review and compare both once in a while.
I just did this today. Transferred from Calender to phone and visa versa. The phone is handy if I have to make an appt somewhere else. But my frig Calendar is right there. Also, my DH sees it and knows what is going on.
Not sure if me, as a son or daughter, would appreciate being told I had to make an appt to see my parent. Not that, if ur caring for this parent in your home, people should be coming over willy nilly but u don't say to them "well, ur day is Friday at 2pm". Now if siblings have agreed for them a certain day a certain time is good, OK. Or, ur trying to set up a schedule where they are there to be with the parent while you have some time to yourself or run errands.
You do have a right to ask that they call before stopping by because it just not be a good time, whether ur house or theirs.
For me, I have a big calendar that fits the top of my frig. One is monthly, the other side is 2 months. Both have nice big squares for each day. I know what is going on for a month or two at a glance. I use my phone calendar to keep record of anything more than 2 months away.
