I called the Hospice and asked if he would qualify. After talking to me for a bit and getting his medical information they said he would qualify and that a Nurse would call me and set up an appointment and a CNA would call and set up a time to come by. That was it. So call the Hospice of your choice. there are 2 basic types . FOR profit and NOT for profit. Call several and ask general questions. Get a feel for each and make a decision. You can always drop Hospice if you do not like it or you can switch to another. Hospice is just like any other medical provider if you are not happy, if you are not getting proper care you can go to another.
Typically you need a doctors referral to have someone put under hospice care, but not always. When my husband was getting worse in his health, I just called a hospice agency in our area, and they came out and did an assessment to see if he qualified.
