It really doesn't matter what type of casket you have. Cemeteries require vaults now that keeps water and bugs out.

I think if you aren't embalmed you need to be buried within 24 hrs or have a closed casket.
My GF's mother bought hers at Sam's Club. It was stored in the barn until needed. When she passed. she was placed in the casket and buried in a private family cemetery out in the country. Embalming as not required because of the local laws.
