I would say in your area very expensive. Like said some have a tier level. Moms went from 1 to 4, 4 needing the most care. Mom still ate in the dining room but she needed help in bathing, dressing and direction. Her room and board I was able to get at half price. Her care needs were as much as her room and board. She paid by day so if there were 30 days in the month she paid for 30, 31 she paid for 31. Her month cost varied from 4500 to 5000k. Without Moms discount, the other residents were paying 6k a month. That was 5 yrs ago and I live in a small town.
You need to research your area. Office of Aging maybe able to help.
The cost of Assisted Living will GREATLY depend on how much "assistance" is needed. And where the facility is. Some places have a "flat fee" or "tier system" but most will charge for what needs are being met by the facility. Call the facilities in your area and tour them. Ask what the fee schedule is and how often reassessment is done.
Daboss, being you live just outside of Dallas-Fort Worth, there should be many senior facilities to choose from. Just start calling around to see what is available/costs and if your parent needs Assisted Living or Memory Care. Memory Care would be more expensive per month as more staff is required, and it is up to the facility to determine which section would work the best for your parent.
When my Dad moved into senior living, he was looking in the middle of winter when things are slow. Thus, the facility had units available and were in the middle of remodeling those units, and if Dad could wait a couple of weeks they would give him a discount. Dad loved discounts and he was able to wait :)
