Why do dementia patients have more energy & trouble sleeping?

My mum has dementia and unfortunately it’s getting worse. She doesn’t sleep a lot at night and she has so much energy! Why do they get this energy at such a stressful time in there lives with this unfortunate disease. Sometimes I just can’t keep up.

The brain is broken and the shut of valve and Nuerotranmitters are Not connecting Properly for the Person to sleep because basically the brain has gone haywire .

My mom had Parkinson’s disease and developed dementia. She had issues with sleeping. She even tried to walk out of the front door in the middle of the night.

She also had vivid nightmares. Sometimes I would hear her screaming in her sleep and I would go and wake her up. She always thanked me for waking her up from a horrible nightmare.

My mother’s doctor prescribed Ativan and Seroquel. When she started taking the Seroquel she was finally able to sleep at night.

Have you discussed your mom’s insomnia with her doctor. He may decide to put her on medication so she can rest peacefully.

Best wishes to you and your mother.
