Suggestions for the best orthopedic pillows and wedges for a bedridden person?

Even with the best pillow or support, you might need to make small additions to fit individual need or preference. You can purchase foam sheet material through Amazon and then experiment with various additions to the pillows and glue them on the pillow. Or you can buy wedges and rolls to fine-tune the pillow's function.

You do not need a whole bunch of speciality pillows. Regular ones will do. I did get a wedge pillow to keep my wife rolled over. I move her every couple of hours. Amazon has some deals. Just make sure you get one big enough. Obviously smaller costs less. And really a big one is useless

Is you dad currently in hospice? I recall when my dad was bedridden, hospice ordered a certain type of cushion to be put over the mattress on the hospital bed to keep him from getting bedsores. Mostly we just used soft pillows, or rolled up cotton blankets to support him.

In hospitals the staff use multiple pillows that are soft enough to fold in half. Two pillows behind the back and butt can help to keep a patient on their side. Pillows can be placed under knees. Ask a nurse about several pillow placement to support the body.

My mother’s home health nurse and her physical therapist recommended a certain pillow but I can’t remember the exact brand.

A wound care nurse would be able to give you lots of information. We were fortunate that my mom’s nurse was trained in wound care, prevention and treatment if needed.

If dad is bedridden, he needs devices in place to prevent bedsores. Hospice provides many useful things in terms of that, including foot wedge booties to protect the heels of his feet which are vulnerable to sores. They also provide air mattress type inserts for hospital beds along with other useful items, it's what they do. A caregiver needs to physically rotate his body a quarter turn every 2 hours as well. Mandatory.

As far as pillows go, everyone is different as far as what brings them comfort. I use a husk roll pillow to prop my neck up when lying in bed and to give support. A Bamboo body pillow stuffed with torn up memory foam is also great, but HEAVY.
