Can the police legally make someone leave their home when the home owner goes into a nursing home and is appointed a guardian?

I was living with an elderly friend to take care of her, never being paid, and she went to a nursing home and a guardian was appointed by the state. I lived there for almost a year. The sheriff came one day and made me leave. They said I was trespassing. I wasn't allowed to get any of my belongings and was told to contact the guardian. I have asked her 3 times to make arrangements with me so I can get my stuff from the property and I was told that she had to contact her attorney and she would call me and let me know. I have yet to receive a call to get my stuff. I've visited my friend in the nursing home several times and asked her if she was aware of the situation and she hasn't been told anything.

Yes, I am with grandma. You should have gotten a warning you needed to leave. You may need a lawyer of your own, even legal aid. A police officer should go with u when u pick up ur belongings. Also the guardian needs to be present so you are not later accused of theft. Make a list of your belongings.

I would file a claim with small claims court. I find it hard to believe you were evicted without notice and not allowed to gather your personal belongings.

i’m guessing OP was warned but didn’t take the warning seriously. then one day, they decided to take action/police.

I'm sorry you are in this situation. You likely had established residency and if you had been proactive before the home owner went into the NH this may have been avoided. Did you attend the court hearings when the guardian was appointed? You can try Legal Aid, there should be an office near your community. At this point I think you are going to need legal help. Or you can keep harassing the guardian until she lets you in to get your belongings.

Yes, you'll need to make arrangements with the guardian like the sheriff told you.
