When is someone ready for palliative care?

My mom had Parkinson’s disease. She died awhile back at the age of 95.

I had these concerns about my mother’s care. I spoke with my mom’s doctor privately about my mom’s situation.

Do you have medical POA so you can speak freely to her doctor about your concerns?

Mom chose palliative care before going onto hospice care. Have your mom’s doctor discuss what the best options are for your mom.

Are you talking Palliative Care or Hospice?
With Palliative care people living with serious illness can have Palliative care for pain and symptom management. It is in conjunction with their own doctors and they are still getting treatment.
When the decision to stop treatments is made Hospice can help with pain and Symptom management. At that point the patient will most likely stop seeing their doctor and the Hospice doctor will become the doctor that will prescribe and order treatment/care.
Anyone with a chronic illness can get Palliative Care
Anyone with an "Life Limiting diagnosis" that is no longer wanting to get treatment can get Hospice Care.

When they decide they no longer want to pursue extraordinary life extending measures. My mom's doctor was treating her as palliative for the final 5 years of her life, well before she needed a nursing home level of care.
