My mom is 92 and she doesn’t have an appetite. She eats very little. Is this her body shutting down?

If M is 92 and doesn’t want to eat, is there a real reason for finding out why, or trying to overcome the problem? Perhaps let her do what she wants to do, and let her life end this way.

Many people in their 90s have had many problems ‘fixed’, resulting in a longer life with fewer pleasures. In the past they would have ‘faded out’, and it would simply be seen as ‘God’s will’.

Whatever you choose to do, the result is not ‘your fault’. All our lives have to end.

Maybe. People do lose interest in eating as they near the end of life, but there are a whole bunch of other possible reasons including difficulty swallowing(dysphagia), oral and dental problems or stomach and bowel difficulties. With my mom it was a loss of the coordination and initiative to eat, she couldn't seem to get the food from the plate to her mouth so I had to feed her for several years.

It’s possible. My mom ate very little for a long time before the end. Some elderly people lose their appetites.

Care to share a bit more information about her condition?
