My (half) sister planned to do exactly that. She has 2 brothers but they've been NO help with their 86 y.o. mother w/dementia. My sister has been living with her for the past 2 years and trying to get her into a memory care facility. Her mother is extremely abusive toward her, all day everyday. When she called APS last week to say she can't take it anymore and needs to leave, they told her they could report her for neglect/abandonment. I told her to take the mother to her brothers' place and leave. Let THEM figure out what to do with her. There are no other family members and no friends available. What to do?
If your Dad is physically abusing you call 911. When the police arrive you explain Dad has Dementia and has been physically abusing you and your are now scared he will seriously hurt you. He will be taken to ER and a Psychic Eval will be done. He should be given meds. If u feel u can no longer care for him, have him placed in a LTC facility. If no money, Medicaid can be applied for. If the home is his, as a Caregiver of at least 2 yrs, u maybe able to remain in the home if u can care for it. A Medicaid caseworker can explain how it all works.
An abused person can call the local Adult Protective Services and report what exactly is going on. You can also call local law enforcement while the abuse is happening and ask for help. Please know that no matter the reason or situation, no one deserves or should stick around for abuse

In what way is the caregiver being abused?
Given our answers in the past, what measures have you taken that were suggested?

I will tell you now exactly what I told you before. Call the cops and tell them to bring a social worker.
Then walk away.
I also told you to get your ducks in a row. Get a job and line up a place to stay.

Why can’t the caregiver leave?
