Happily confused, for how long? (your experience)

I am just looking for people's experiences. My father's Alzheimer's progressed quite a bit but he seems to be more "happily confused" than when he was 6 months ago.

I believe this was partly due to him living with a woman (girlfriend?) who was taking care of him (dx w/dementia). But she became paranoid and was telling to hide his money from his kids. She became confused and her family placed her in AL.

For most of his life he had a negative attitude and worried/complained a lot. Now he laughs all the time, never complains, and appears to be the most happy I've seen him.

So now I'm waiting for his confusion to turn from a happy confused person into a frustrated individual with hallucinations/paranoia. Has anyone ever heard of an individual with Alzheimer's who has stayed "happily confused" and remained this way until they were placed into a NH?

He may always be like this till the end. Each person has a different reaction to Dementia. Enjoy it and I hope it lasts.

One thing you CAN predict about ANY TYPE of dementia, is the NOTHING is predictable. ;)!

I know of a woman with probable vascular dementia who has had a series of mini-strokes, and a sightly bigger one lately. Her family reports she's had a definite personality change for the better, seems much less negative, happier, and more pleasant and appreciative. Even her sense of humor has improved. Alzhemier's is different than vascular dementia, so I'm not sure it's comparable. But it would be nice if your Dad stayed "happily confused."

Kilkoyne - I can’t answer your question but wanted to let you know that I’m experiencing the same with my father. He has been a negative, very difficult person his whole life. He has been diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and, for the last two years, has been stuck in a very “happily confused” state. I’m thrilled for him and for the rest of the family because he truly seems happy finally. I, too, wonder how long this will last. I’m afraid the answer will be that it is different for every situation. I’m glad you asked and I’ll be following this thread.
