I have a question about live-in caregiver pay.

I am currently looking for housing in the area I live in California and have talked with 3 different people that posted about free rent in exchange for light caregiving responsibilities. As I have experience working as a nursing assistant this seemed ideal to me but I also am worried about legality of it and if it’s a fair trade given the situation.

they are all asking for small amount of care (just help in the mornings or tidy around the house as needed etc. Or a different family said it was totally up to my schedule but couldn’t give me set schedule. They all said hours are flexible and I would be able to keep my other part time job with no issues.
does this sound like a bad idea/taking advantage of people or does it sound reasonable given the very minimal hours and flexibility and added I would still have a separate part time job.

This was a disaster when my extended family tried it. Caregiving needs never remain stagnant, they always increase, often in ways not obvious to the family for a long while. When members of my family tried it, the caregiver used was very sweet but the situation was bad for all sides and quickly fell apart. I’d research this heavily and have a contract in place before even attempting it

Are they going to pay for caregiver services?

depends on where in cali, rent a room most places for 1000 or less
get in home nursing service for $30/hr minimum
$30x3hrs/day=$2800/mo more or less

so if you can do a 3 hr NON SPLIT SHIFT per day and stay busy everyday with minor contact in the off times
AND
you receive the $2800
AND
your rent is $1000 or less
AND
you get along with every member of the family to include close friends and confidantes
AND
you really want to move to California,
then why the heck not?
