Where is source for in-home service that includes driving?

I know what you’re saying. One of my neighbors didn’t want to be tied down to the bus schedule from our local Council on Aging.

She preferred doing her shopping at her convenience.

She hired a companion, a single mom who needed additional income who drove her to the store and doctor appointments. It worked out well for her.

Living in a Senior Community don't they have a bus or Van thatvwill take you to appts and shopping? The County you live in should have an Office of Aging. They usually have bussing for Seniors.

When I called Visiting Angels when my brother was perhaps in need I was told that this can be arranged with them. HOWEVER, they and I think others have minimal hour required. That is to say that he would have had to have an angel there a minimun of three days a week four hours per day. He didn't need that much. Light housekeeping and light cooking. They wouldn't take him to medical appts but would take him shopping but that DID require checking in with them first as the person driving had of course to be checked for a clean driving record, and safe car, etc.

I would call services in your area. The Visiting Angel woman in Palm Springs was so pleasant, giving tips about where else to call. Good luck.

My mom had a “companion.” In fact, several over the years. Dad hired them to take her to the doctors and shopping because he didn’t want to. A companion doesn’t do medical things like toileting. They drive, take out to lunch, make appointments and remind and take them, keep notes, find and supervise handyman, go shopping with the person and help put away food and purchases. They might feed and walk a pet. They neaten the kitchen and do limited personal laundry. They don’t do heavy housework. Dad found them by putting ads in paper. Word of mouth might be better. You don’t want to attract crazies who do bad things. A companion doesn’t wear scrubs or a uniform and is expected to fit in socially so they can be comfortable with the employer’s friends. They might take employer to church, movie or other social events. In other words, they’re like a paid friend.

I know that where I live our Senior Services and Shepherd Centers both have volunteers that do just what you're wanting. They drive folks to their doctors appointments and take them grocery shopping.
You may want to start there, until more folks chime in with other ideas.
