When you have to be near her , you put a mint in your own mouth . It will help you to not notice the bad smell . I have a friend with that problem , I suck on mints when I’m with her .
My father had a brain tumor and cancer, and his breath was unbearable some days. Chucks good friend has lymphoma and has been getting treatment for ages. You cannot get close to him for his breath. I agree with your comment.
I may say something. If she is from an agency, tell them. If not, you will need to. You can start by saying Mom loves her and your happy with her work but you have noticed her bad breath.
If it smells like rotten eggs or sulphur, this woman needs to see her dentist immediately. This is a sign of gum disease and if not taken care of she will lose her teeth. Eventually, the bacteria will eat away at the bone holding the teeth in place. Hopefully, she is in the early stage and a good cleaning will do the trick. Tell her to breath into the palm of her hand and then smell. Thats what ur smelling.
This could be one situation where M has benefited from Covid, by losing her sense of smell. Perhaps the carer has lost hers too. If their relationship works, all you need to do is to stand back yourself.
If your mom is happy with her leave well enough alone, as it's very hard these days to find good help. You can just stand back several feet when having to talk to her.
