Morphine for end-stage CHF?

NeedHelpWithMom Nov 30, 2023
Just read your profile. You say that mom is living in your home. Is she on hospice?

I can’t tell what your mom’s age is. You need to correct a typo. Her age is listed as -911.

If she is dying and is receiving hospice care, morphine use is appropriate and commonly used.

Please tell us more so we can attempt to help you.
From what little you say I can only guess at what is happening.
Morphine may be given for air hunger and shortness of breath. This happens in a Hospice setting more often than not.
I look forward to you filling us in on the particulars of your own situation, and meanwhile wish you the best.

We don't even know what you are asking here OP. The original statement had no question mark at the end of it, the moderators must have added it. If you have a question, please ask it.

Is she on Hospice? Morphine is used to ease breathing problems.

When one comes into the ER for acute CHF, morphine can be a standard. Why do you want to "play" doctor and deprive your LO a medication to reduce discomfort and allow for more suffering?

I know that due to the much publicized overuse of these drugs many people are terrified of them but opioids can help with breath hunger (Dyspnea) as well as any pain associated with end stage heart failure, end of life is not the time to worry about things like addiction.
