Your profile says Mom has Dementia. She assigned your niece as POA for a reason which is now in effect. As POA the doctors only talk to her. If you are not on Moms Hippa paperwork they cannot talk to you. And as her grandmothers representative she does not need to tell anyone Grandmoms info.
The Niece has POA. That is who the doctor will speak to. If your mother is awake and competent she can give the doctor permission to speak to you also. But the doctor will more than likely be speaking to ONE person and that will be the person with the POA. They do not have time to speak to every person.
Why is the niece not speaking to you regarding your mother's condition, may I ask? Sabrina, please limit yourself to one question for one subject.

But the doctor will more than likely be speaking to ONE person and that will be the person with the POA. They do not have time to speak to every person.
