Father lives with us. He’s mean, argumentative, has dementia and several other health concerns. He has become too difficult to care for.

He has no assets.  What options do we have for alternative housing and care in TN? Other family members, including wife, refuse to have him. Has Medicare, not Medicaid. Considered too independent for nursing home. Has become toxic and too stressful for spouse & me. Need help ASAP. Thank you.

Report him to APS if you think he's vulnerable or a danger to himself (or others). Do not take him into your house for any reason. Stop helping him completely, keep calling APS. They will handle it.

Who considers him too independent for nursing home?

There are apartments that are designed for seniors. Many are ages 50 and up. Most will have waiting lists. The rent is usually priced according to a person’s income.

Call Council on Aging in your area to see if they can help you.

Call local churches because some of these apartments are affiliated with religious organizations.

Wishing you and your family all the best.
