He has now been in the hospital for two weeks. He has a feeding tube and oxygen. He can barely cough, but when he does you can hear the fluid in his lungs.
He has a fever but they can’t find an infection, bp is consistently high and he can’t move his head or right arm at all. They ran a test for stroke that came back negative.
He seems to be going downhill pretty quickly and the doctors say that they can’t do anything for him.
We are at a loss.
He knows we are there and tries to respond but can’t get any words out.
We asked him if he wanted to stop the feeding tube and the oxygen mask because his wishes are not to be kept alive by machines if he had no quality of life. He was able to say NO!
The family does not have the money for private care.
Does Medicare cover anything for home health care? We keep getting the run around from the caseworker.

My experience: When my daddy fell, 11 months before he died, he could not move, or get up. I had to call 911. He was in the hospital for about 4 days then moved to a "rehab" (nursing home) I located the social worker and they turned me over to a caseworker (who was a great person). I informed her I know nothing about medicare and she took my hand and walked me through everything. All this to say, if you can find another case worker that will hold your hand. Do not back down. Blessings to you and know I am sending a cyber hug to you! <3
