Pay for sitter.

Are there any state programs that will help to pay for a companion sitter for a relative in a nursing home?

Family members are the unpaid sitters for loved ones in managed care facilities.

No. There are not any government programs that will pay for a private companion services to babysit a person in a nursing home. None that I know of and I own a homecare business. I get calls all the time from people looking for a sitter to stay with someone in a NH. They have trouble understanding that Medicare, Medicaid, and LTC policies do not pay for this.

Why should they? Medicaid already gets robbed for thousands and thousands a month paid out to nursing homes for resident care. They're not paying for private companions to come in.

I have never heard of one but call the Area Agency on Aging and see what they advise.
