Where do I look for post-surgery home care?

I'm having surgery on April 30th, 2024 to put my lower spinal cord back in place. I'll need a caregiver for 7 days that week to help with everything I won't be able to do after surgery. What should I expect to pay?

I would say, you will be sent to Rehab for some therapy. And yes, I would talk to your doctor aboutvwhere u can get help while recuperating once ur home. Dr may be able to get you "in home care". What services they cannot provide you can hire someone. Ex: an aide is provided for bathing 2 or 3x a week forvan hour. A member here said she got 4 hrs a day. They do not work weekends.

This is a Forum of caregivers, strangers from all around the world. We are not an agency providing care. Some of the ads on this site may be of interest. They are clearly ads. You may want to start your search with discussing care needs and rehab with your doctor office and asking for social service outreach for in home care if needed. I wish you best of luck on your surgery and for your recovery. Hoping that all goes well for you.
Go online and check agencies in your area regarding cost. Call your local council on aging for recommendations.

Talk to your doctor about going to inpatient rehabilitation and physical therapy for a longer duration after your surgery, due to your condition.

If this is elective surgery, did you get a second opinion?

Then call your local senior center for referrals for in home help or a geriatric care manager.

You are asking an international group of people struggling as caregivers. This is not a commercial business. You have to search in your state, county, or city. You might contact your local social service
Also Ellen, please remove any personal informatikn and change your name to something anonymous. You are making yourself vulnerable to scammers
To answer your question on personal costs, expect $25 to 35/ hour depending upon the type of care. Especially if you need a lift or transportation. If you are offered rehab with your insurance then use it
