What is the best way to get a cash advance on my friend's credit card to pay her nursing home bill?
I need the funds because her nursing center does not take credit to pay the bill for living there. She will be paying her share with her social security after the initial bill gets paid. I do have proof I am POA.
"Your credit card cash advance limit will typically be lower than your credit limit, with a typical limit falling between 20% to 50% of your total spending limit. For example, if you have a $5,000 credit limit on your card, your cash advance limit will likely be less than $2,500."
Plus, the advance limit will be lower if she's carrying a balance. But putting her in debt like this is not in her best interests, so it's at odds with the responsibilities of a PoA.
Also, if she can't afford to pay for the AL, how is it that she has a card with a high credit limit at her age, with only income from SS?
Yikes, not a good plan at all and absolutely unsustainable. How is she going to pay back the cash advance AND pay for the facility? Does she own a home? A car? Jewelry? Any other property? If so, time to sell it.
She's 91. Hopefully she's in a facility that accepts Medicaid, if she qualifies. Time for you to do research about what options she has.

You should read the state laws for the fiduciary responsibility you have as POA for your friend.

If your friend has no money then you file for Medicaid. The Social Worker can help you get started. Do not use your own money.
You know, this is kind of a fraud if you are getting a cash advance and you know she will never be able to pay it back.
