My friend needs a caregiver, he has Medicare. Can I get paid to be the caregiver?

Some States have programs where an agency trains you, hires you and your client would be your friend. You get benefits too. Call your local Social Service office and see if Medicaid provides these programs.

Think carefully about changing your friendship.

Providing hands-on care will change things into a care recipient & care giver relationship.

Being paid will change things to employer & employee status.

Your friend will need care attendants to help with day to day needs.

JoannGarza1, please note that Medicare does not pay for home care. Your friend can see if he qualify for Medicaid, which is a State funded program where you could get paid. Each State has their own Medicaid rules/regulations and programs.


Note, that some programs are limited. Pay is usually minimum wage for a limited time per week. Some States have better programs. Remember, Medicaid is taxpayer funded with some money coming from the Federal government (which is also taxpayer funded).
