This is about as individual as your own thumbprint. It varies with patient, body weight, age, condition and a whole lot of other issues. Many medications that help with agitation lessen our balance and strength and may contribute to falls. Some MDs may prefer to try low dose anti-depressants for this reason. Do discuss this with the doctor and wishing you best of luck.
It also depends on the person. Some people cannot tolerate certain medications. The amount given can effect them. Like said, you should be talking to her doctor.
This needs to be discussed with the doctor. Medications, the type and the dose can be limited depending on the type of dementia is involved. Even before starting or trying an herbal OTC supplement discuss with the doctor or even pharmacist before starting.
My 95-yr old Mom started having weepiness and asked for meds for depression (she never took these type of meds before in her life). Her primary doc (after an initial in-person appointment, lab work, etc) started her on the minimum dosage of Lexapro, which has few side effects. It has worked quite well for my Mom.
