Hello! My mother is 75 and most likely has onset dementia; we have not had her tested yet, as she refuses. I’m looking for ideas on where she could live. She only has social security for income, has terrible credit (thousands in debt), and her Medicaid doesn’t cover much. I’m looking into subsidized housing but worry that won’t be a safe place for her. I'm also looking into housing vouchers, but it seems that could take 1-2 years depending on the wait list. I’m having trouble finding a place that takes Medicaid near us. She can’t live with me due to my work/continued education and the potential full time job she may end up being. Advice/ideas?
If she can't do this, eventually you will end in a situation where there is a hospitalization and a social worker who will assist you with finding placement. They are much better at that than we are, especially with medicaid being the payment.
If worst comes to worst Mom will end taken to the ER for evaluation. That is the time to call in the heavy duty help. I think you will have a hard time finding placement with her income, as facilities do try to "cherry pick"; they are businesses.
