My dad's in a nursing home now and the phone in his room has wires and cords and they're all knotted and he has trouble with the handset so he's asked for a basic cell phone, really just to call my mom, my sister, and I with once in awhile. I don't think he wants to worry about internet or data or anything, but I'm not sure.

So... does anybody have any recommendations for easy-to-use, not too expensive (his words, because he figures it could get lost or broken) cell phones for seniors?

Thanks in advance!

I have tracfone-I pay $30 unlimited talk and text for my smart phone. But if he is not a big talker, there are the pay as you go plans. Plus there are flip phones for those who don't want to deal with a smart phone. It is also a Bring your own phone company. You can get tracfone phones and plans at any walmart store. You can also get gently used phones off the tracfone website, but if he ends up losing it, then replacing the phone is very inexpensive. On the website, you can also get phones for free or cheap, if you buy a plan. Can he apply for lifeline assistance? That's free, but they decide what phone you are going to get.

A cordless phone is my thought as well. So many problems that could happen with a cell phone. First and foremost he may not know how to operate it. Forget to charge it. Lose it. End up in laundry. Poor reception. Poor tone quality. The list goes on.

It should be easy enough to replace the room phone with a cordless one, might that not be a better (and cheaper) option?

My husband has the Doro phone. A flip phone and a $15 per month plan from Consumer Cellular. It’s very easy to use.
