My 89 year old mother-in-law and a stroke but doctors refuse to put in feeding tube.

Does your mil have an advanced directive that declines extreme measures? I believe that feeding tubes constitute extreme measures.

How is her breathing? Inserting a feeding tube requires anesthesia and if her breathing is compromised, they may not be able to do it. Speak with the doctors about the best course of action.

They probably have good reasons. Can you give us more details as to what is affected by the stroke?
