I like the Great Call Splash for my 89 year old mother. It can get wet in the shower and I can track her whereabouts with it. She does need to push the pendent button but there is someone right there answering right through the pendant. I had Medical Alert and was not satisfied-I am very pleased with this device.
I once responded to an EMS call for an unknown emergency at a remote location with no street address. After some conversing back and forth with the dispatcher they said I was on the scene coordinates (GPS) given by the alarm company. A deputy pulled up behind me and we started to look for the emergency. Both our units were parked in the street with the strobes going and the whole deal. We could hear the sirens from the transport ambulance and fire engine coming in behind us (standard assignment for an "unknown emergency"). Eventually, a little old man came out of the trees from a nearby campground and walked up to us looking all sheepish and said "I'm in trouble aren't I?" "They said this thing would work anywhere in the world and I didn't believe them." The Deputy said, "Well it worked. Do you believe them now?" The old man said,"Am I in trouble?" The Deputy said, "Only if you set that thing off again just to see what happens!" I quickly put out the word for the incoming units to stand down. This man was camping in Virgina with his family (who wasn't real happy with him when they found out he was the cause of all the commotion). They were from Pennsylvania. I still have to laugh over that one several years later. So I know what you are looking for is available and they work!!
Out of curiosity I checked out the philips gosafe system recommended by Vecharo, all I can say is Wow! these systems have sure evolved. Back in my grandmother's day the philips pendent was the size of a deck of cards and heavy, when my mother had one the pendents were small but the system was strictly a push button alert connected to her landline phone. To see they have evolved to include fall alerts almost anywhere outside the home is pretty amazing, but the price... ouch!
We used the OnStar unit, a small push button with gps locator and speaker. It worked inside and when my mother was out in the yard or went grocery shopping etc. The person on the other end was very kind and helpful. Mom was hard of hearing and if you made that notation in the user profile they accommodated.
