Thanks for all of your different comments on Aricept. Indeed every case is different. Mum has slight Alzhiemer but not Parkinson. Aricept doesnt resolve her agitation or control much even after a month. Mum also has anxiety disorder and therefore Levapro works better on her.
In anycase, I am switching her to another Neurologist for a 2nd opinion.
I wished mum has the reversible type of dementia. Aricept has no effect on her at all but Levapro does.
Aricept "supposedly" will slow down the progression in a small percentage of folks but that is only for about 6 months. And for the rest of the folks it does nothing at all but cause some irritating side effects.
And if it is in fact Alzheimer's that your mum has been diagnosed with, that is the slowest progressing of all of the dementias and can go on for 20+ years, so the best thing you can do now is educate yourself about this horrific disease so you are better prepared for whatever lies ahead.
