My mother in laws needs have increased to a point where the assisted living home she lives in is requiring us to move her to skilled nursing. She has Parkinson's, not mobile, requires assistance to do daily tasks and requires soft, and/or mechanical diet .

Find Care & Housing
O no Carla, please don't say you are going broke paying for MIL's care. She needs to pay from her income and assets. Who is going to pay for your care when you need it? MIL needs to be in nursing home, most of her income goes to the NH, the rest is paid through LTC Medicaid. So if she's not on medicaid you need to start the application process. Ask the assisted living home to help you with the process and locating a SNF that she can transfer to.

She should be on Medicaid, there is no reason for you to pay anything. Why in the world would you be paying for her care? Contact Medicaid and go from there.

Hi Carla, your mother in law will need to go onto medicaid to pay for a nursing home. This should not be coming out of your pocket. Also, does she have SS income or a pension, etc.? Her care costs should be covered by her, not you. A financial adviser, or elder care attorney can help you with financial questions. Some skilled nursing facilities also have administrative offices that offer assistance applying for medicaid.
