Find Care & Housing
Mesehn, excellent question. When my Mom was self-paying in a nursing home, it was costing my Dad $12,000 per month in our area [cost vary from area to area]. Yes, per month. That took a big bite out of their rainy-day fund.

I know I would be curious to know how much Medicaid would be paying.

My Mom had been on Medicaid for almost 3 months. The lean on her house was just short of 6k. Her SS and small pension went to offset the cost the cost of the NH.

You really need to check this out for your State.

My MIL gets approx $2,018 per month in SS. The NH withdraws $1,989 every month (she's on Medicaid). This includes phone and cable tv. It is different for every Medicaid recipient in every state. It does not even begin to cover the cost of caring for 1 person full-time, especially very ill ones in LTC. This is why facilities have so few Medicaid beds and some have none at all.
