I've only visited one place, but they allowed for it. They even pointed out that for many of their residents, the spouse still went to work everyday. I would call up and ask.

This place was an AL with a memory wing. Really the only difference I saw in the memory wing was a nurses station and they locked the doors to that wing. Otherwise, it seemed the same as the rest of the AL facility.

Many facilities do allow this. It depends largely upon the stage of dementia and well partner's ability to provide care. Just call around to ask the question. Facility would then do a needs assessment of both to make a determination whether it is possible in their specific case.
