Patient has Alzheimer’s. Not keen on having care in-home is ALF a good alternative

Google care advisors… they are like realtors .. paid by the facility. Find someone local, an independent etc… someone who will meet with you. I used an independent in another state to find an AL for my mom, and again , here, when I moved her. Care advisors know the cost , availability, services , your needs, reputation etc. I used a franchise here, called care patrol … they were invaluable to me. They also have a business relationship with the facility, which my mom was able to be placed in a one year self paybefore accepting Medicaid, even though she would be a couple months short of that .

Most ALF will not take someone who needs memory care, and most seniors with dementia need the larger staffing and more care involved in memory care or nursing home. Most ALF have fairly mobile and fairly able residents who need minimal assists and are safe with unlocked doors. You will want to tour places in your own area. They will be glad to set up arrangements, tell you what is available and speak with you about their levels of care and placement. Good luck. It widely varies state to state and even city to city within a state.
If assets are not plentiful and there is some change that the elder will need medicaid funds do know that most ALF do not accept it.

She may need Memory Care which is more care and supervision than a regular AL.
