My mom is 80 years old. And she was hit by a car in November 2017 I have become her full-time caregiver but I don’t mind doing it Monday through Friday however I do need a little break on the weekends. I’m looking for somebody who can basically come to my home on the weekends they must be trustworthy willing to do a background check, non-smoker reliable, light cooking food prep keep her company. It wouldn’t be a sleepover, they would just stay with her from 10 to 12 hours a day Saturday and Sunday only.
The employees have had background checks done. (keep in mind background checks will pick up convictions but if a person has not been convicted it may not show up)
If your mom does not need medication to be given to her a caregiver would work. If a needed medications can be placed in front of her and she can take them herself then a caregiver can do that. If she needs medications physically given to her then you will pay more for a nurse.
"Interview" a few agencies and they will also want to access your mom as to the amount of care that she will need then you can discuss how much it will cost for the 10 to 12 hours. Also good possibility that you will end up hiring 2 for each day due to the 10 to 12 hours work schedule. If you could get by with an 8 hour respite that might be quite a bit less.
If you want to go private, you would have to set mom up as an employer, setup payroll, need a contract, etc.
Weekends are tough. Aging services would be able to tell you where to find a senior center if there is one on weekends. You may have to adjust your schedule and make your weekend Monday and Tuesday. No appointments for mom on those days.
