My family is looking for a Superstore that sells Durable Medical Equipment in anticipation of my mother leaving her Nursing Home to return home.

We live in Westchester County, NY. Does anyone know of a real superstore in our area that sells and importantly STOCKS a very large amount of hospital beds, Hoyer type lifts, motorized armchairs, etc? We could travel to CT or NJ if no superstores near Westchester.

The stores in our County typically only have 3-4 beds, 1-2 lifts, etc. We would like to be able to see a much greater variety/brands of equipment to get a better sense of what is out there and actually try out the equipment in person. This is all new to us so online websites, Amazon, etc is not the way we want to go.

Any suggestions on top one or two brands in categories of fully motorized and durable beds, lifts and armchairs (like a lazy-boy type when Mom is resting in the living room) and a rough idea of pricing for these categories is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Clemente

That's great, thanks so much SnoopyLove! I really appreciate your care here for Mom as we seek out a brick and mortar retail superstore near us.

Is mom eligible for Hospice? If so ALL the items you mention would be provided by Hospice at no charge to you. Hospice and the supplies they provide are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plans.
The one item you mention that Hospice would not provide would be a Lift Chair you can buy those at most furniture stores. I would strongly suggest one that is NOT fabric. The surface should be easily cleanable and non absorbent.
Many Senior Centers or Senior Volunteer groups also have lending closets you can get many items that way.

I'll have to check on that, not sure. I have been told by an owner of a durable medical equipment company that some of the key items we need to buy, a Hoyer lift and Hospital Bed, generally are covered under Medicare but that always, or at least most of the time, electric type is not covered for these two items but instead Medicare only typically pays for manual type patient lifts and hospital beds--which is pump type, and we would not want pump only, really want electric to make life easier for 24/7 aide. I think manual pump we would want as additional to electric, but only in case their is a power outage.

Looking on yelp.com, I see a 5-star review for a place called United States Medical Supply in Nyack, NY. You could start there.
