Is this expense reimbursable to help qualify for Medicaid?

This question has been closed for answers. Ask a New Question.
Medicaid won't reimburse you for any money YOU spent. If your mom owns the house then they do have a program where she would first have to qualify for Medicaid for Home Care then her case worker would put in an authorization. Somebody would then come to evaluate the home then the job would be handed off to an approved contractor - the contractor would make the renovations which would then be paid by Medicaid.

Since you did it yourself to your home, you can not be reimbursed. Also, only certain things can be paid for such as installing a walk-in shower and that would be only after she had qualified for Medicaid.

I would think that this is not reimbursable. Not fully understanding who you feel should be reimbursing you. Am i missing something?

No. Medicaid feels that any renovations done to your house you will profit by when u sell. If she is selling a house it must be at Market Value. The proceeds need to be in an account for her care and expenses. You need to keep good records where the money goes. I was told by a caseworker I may not be able to get any out of pocket reimbursement even if I kept meticulous records.

I paid 7k to enlarge a powder room for a walk in shower for my Mom.

No, I think it isn't in general. If your Mother paid to have this work done and then move in then that is her expense for her living quarters paid by her. Otherwise unlikely to be covered in most states unless actually done and contracted out by medicaid itself. But with this and all questions, your best source, given the varying of rules state by state is to call medicare at 1-800 - medicare and ask about how to find out the answers to this question for your own particular state.
