Find Care & Housing
Its for December. Its like a job, your psid after you do the work. Shevis entitled to that check. She won't be entitled to the one received in Feb because thats Januarys check and she diedbin January.

Won't hurt to call SS just in case. They have pulled payments too early. Keep record of who you talked to and I would ask for an email confirming the conversation.

Thank you. She doesn't have any bank accounts. She gets a live check. I'm thinking it's for January. I'll call Social Security,

Wow. I didn't even know they still did that anywhere. I was told that can no longer be done. Good luck, tmaio.

I am so very sorry for your loss. May The Lord give you grieving mercies, strength and wisdom during this difficult time.

My moms ss check would show up 4 days before it was released to fund her account (showed pending status), if this is the normal way it posts, it could very well be for January.

If you have access to the account statments, look back and see how it was showing up pending and being posted.

Call the SSA they will be able to tell you what is what.

Go to Social Security website and they will tell you how all this works right on the website which is excellent.
You can also call Social Security with your question. Keep phone on speaker; it takes them a while to get to you but they are very nice. They will answer a hypothetical question.
You can also check into the bank where Aunt's SS check goes for direct deposit.
They will have a hold on the account until SS checks is recovered if there is a discrepancy.
This from AARP website:
"Say your spouse received her benefits on May 9 and died on May 30. Her family or her estate is entitled to keep the payment that arrived on May 9 because it was for April’s benefits. In fact, they would be entitled to keep that money even if she had died the day before it arrived — again, because that payment was for April’s benefits.

But her survivors are not entitled to keep the May benefit scheduled to arrive in June, even though she was alive for all but one day of May. She was not alive for the entire month, and for benefit purposes that is the determining factor. If that May payment is made because Social Security was not notified promptly of the beneficiary’s death, it will have to be returned.
Keep in mind
Most funeral homes will report a death to Social Security as part of their services. "
And so on.
To me it is a bit confusing. Let SS or the banker figure it out and let you know.

The funeral home reported her death on the 31st, She was never married, no children, no property, no bank accounts, no will. I'm her next of kin. My oldest brother and is taking care of her cremation. I don't care about the money, I just don't know what do with the check.
