Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. I take issue with the word "arrested". This isn't the wild wild west. No one with Alzheimers, violent or not, would be "arrested". They may be hauled away to a medical facility, but not "arrested". Baker Act should apply.
Wait she didn't say stage seven, she said late stage. Some people consider 5 to be late stage,some are not diagnosed until that stage. He has evedently been diagnosed if they know what stage he is in. I have met some in the nursing home that had other forms of dementia that were rapid. How old is your dad? Maybe he was ok at home until this most violent rampage. Please give us a little more background.
You are asking the WRONG question. If you and other members of the family have allowed Pop to reach the late stages of Alzheimer's without any preparation or planning for events such as this, then the question is not What will happen to him. The question is what responsibility do you and other family members have. If a Judge finds that your father is mentally incompetent, then the Judge (depending in what State you live) may have your father committed to an institution and the cost of internment will become the responsibility of the family. If your father does not have a POA then the Judge may appoint one. This may be a Social Worker or an Attorney but this person will be acting in the interest of the State, not the Family. However, if all of the legal and financial issues were resolved by the family when Pop was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's and his violent behavior is the result of the disease, then he can be declared incompetent and his POA can decide the next step. This would be better for all concerned.
Why do I not believe you? Arrested? That means hauled in and booked, finger-printed etc.?? Stage seven of Alzheimer's disease? Who was in the house with him when his "arrested"?
You should ask that they put him in a locked Alzhiemer's Unit. He will need to see a psychiatrist first to get on ALzheimer's medication and anti anxiety medication or maybe something for aggitation. He does not understand why he was violent. I hope you can get the kind of care he needs. If he had refused to go to a facility before this is the opportune time to get him admitted.
