So they claim he can’t get Medicaid. I'd appreciate some advice.

I live on the other side of the State.

You need to prove that Dad and sister's money was never co-mingled. That the acct was exclusively hers and he was only on it in case someone was needed to pay her bills. You say "had" his name on her acct. When was it removed?

If all Dad is receiving is $1318 a month in SS and no pension then he is well under the approx income $2300 cap allowed. He is only allowed 2k in assets. So if he has more than that, it needs to be spent down. With my Mom, she had 20k. I used that to pay 2 months of NH care. I applied for Medicaid in April. Placed her May 1st. She paid May and June. June I confirmed Medicaid had everything they needed and July Medicaid started. Nj only gives yiu 90days from date of application to spend down, get them info needed and have a place set up.

Be aware that Dads SS will be required to offset his care. I allowed the NH to become his payee. One less check I had to write monthly.

You call your state's Adult Protective Services. They will visit, evaluate the situation and provide assistance or find appropriate placement for dad if necessary. You do this if dad is still at home. Is dad now in a nursing home applying for LTC Medicaid? And is being denied because of comingling of funds with sister? If so, do the same, contact the state's elder services and let them know the situation. They will know what to do and ensure the safety of dad. and as ZippyZee said, YOU don't pay.
