I can't find her birth certificate. What to do?

Has she moved to NY?  If she still has valid NJ ID, I think she can exchange it for NY ID.  This is for exchange of Drivers License, but I think same for IDs

Then the state of NJ cannot provide a birth certificate if she wasn't born there. Unless they scanned it into their system. You need to go back to the County where she was born. Hopefully the birth was registered by the Midwife.

How did Mom prove her NJ ID? When u get a license or ID in NJ the first time, you need to provide proof of birth. Just read NJ excepts passports in place of birth certificates. At one time, because of home births, they allowed the info written in Bibles.

Have you asked Medicaid for alternatives. SS should have birth info.

Her mom obviously had her birth certificate when she applied for a NJ ID. It’s since been lost.

They are in the process of looking for it. My mother is 89 years old black woman born in the South, most likely deliver by a midwife. Thank you for your help

she had to have had a birth certificate if she was ever issued government ID.

Get a new copy of her birth certificate from the state she was born in.
