An the family wants rehab or therapy to continue. My father is in a nursing home (short term) and he was sent for rehab/therapy. He has been there two weeks and they are now advising us that they will discontinue his therapy because they feel he has plateaued. The last week he had a uti which caused some confusion and pain and also they started him on a sleep medication that made him tired during the day. I told them to discontinue the sleep medication and today he is very alert. Can family insist that therapy be continued? I would like to transfer him to a different nursing home and have therapy there and see what they say. Do we have any rights to ask that therapy be continued? He has medicare part A and B and also medicaid.
What you could do is take him back to the doctor who scripted for therapy and discuss the issue.
But you should also consider home therapy. Rehab facility doctors typically will script for home care which includes nurse, PT, OT, social worker and an aide. The therapy won't be as intense or diversified, but it will be easier on the family in a sense since your father will be in the comfort of his own home.
