Studebaker, thank you for coming back with the added information. I would encourage you to find out if she actually has Medicare with a supplemental, because the way you say she has another policy in case of rehab...Medicare covers rehab, a supplemental policy covers all or a portion of what Medicare approves, that would be the only thing I know about that. Could it be a long term care policy?

I do know that many people have Medicare Advantage plans and fully believe they are on Medicare when in fact they are not. Just something that I got caught out on with my dad.

But to your question. If I was moving my loved one and I did not believe that they needed medical transport, I would rent an RV, a small class c from cruise America, and have a driver while I kept mom taken care of. I would request some anti anxiety meds or Valium in case she doesn't do well traveling. That's what I would do.

Doctors have to be careful of liability but, we don't have to follow everything they recommend. As long as we know that they are not responsible for anything that happens if we choose our own plan of action.

I am so sorry that you and your family are going through this. Strokes can be so terribly devastated.

Thank you first time. She currently is in New York and we are moving her to Maryland. She does have medicare. She also has an additional policy if she needed rehab. But until she is able to identify my brother or I as children with a yes response we can't get access to info on policy. Sounds like doctor is recommending a medical transport due to alot of support needed for transfer. Medically she does not need it. She is stable. It is a 6 hour journey from where she is to where she is going.

I think you left out some info.

If she is transferring facilities the receiving facility would provide transport.

If you are trying to move her interstate from one facility to another, please, PLEASE make sure her insurance is mobile. Not all are and it would be terrible to find out after the move.

Defining what you are looking for will help you get better information.
