My good thing for the day is that my sister did not send me any snotty emails today. Got to write that in my Gratitude Journal.

i brought my 89 yr old aunt up for a couple hours last night to groove on my new stove / fireplace. she likes an open fireplace. once she smiled and commented that she could hardly gaze away from the fire. aunt edna is the trike-riding gal. she loves it when ya twist into the throttle. moms sisterly rivalry kept me away from edna for a few years. hope we can make up some lost time.

My cat went to the bathroom, yes, wahoo, he is old and he was constipated, I was desperate and worried, and it was like I won the lottery, go figure, little things mean a lot.

I have my big orange tabby in my lap and my tortie cat is with my mom. Kitty sweetness makes me happy and cheers up my mom, too! Love to all. This happy thread is a great idea--let's keep it going! 😀

Took Mom to physical therapy, and the guy is cute, he put his hands on Mom's leg and then the party began. You could hear us laughing all the way down the hall, the Therapist started calling out for his nurse because we were just really laughing it up! Mom has a cracked left hip, and she can't walk for a while, and the Therapist was trying to help untighten her leg muscles. Oh boy, we get to go back there this Friday. Sure was a fun time for us all, including the assistant who was laughing with us too!

My kids were laughing it up earlier....it was fun watching them hang out together, like old times. My daughter's in college now so these times are few and far between. Her dad gave her a nice big hug when he saw her....awwwww....and of course I did the same....more than once! I'm so excited she's home this weekend.....yippee! Her pets were soooooo happy to see her! :) It's going to be a fantastic weekend!

I'm sort of an atheist, but I love a good prayer.

Thanksgiving Day Prayer
by Walter Rauschenbusch (1861–1918)

For the wide sky and the blessed sun,
For the salt sea and the running water,
For the everlasting hills
And the never-resting winds,
For trees and the common grass underfoot.
We thank you for our senses
By which we hear the songs of birds,
And see the splendor of the summer fields,
And taste of the autumn fruits,
And rejoice in the feel of the snow,
And smell the breath of the spring.
Grant us a heart wide open to all this beauty;
And save our souls from being so blind
That we pass unseeing
When even the common thornbush
Is aflame with your glory,
O God our creator,
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
AMEN.

One thing I just realized today, and the posts on this thread seem to indicate it is largely true, we come to appreciate the simple things. Cats in laps, a cat finally relieving itself (LOL) a friend calling, a good book and children laughing.

I have been divorced for about 20 years and never dated anyone in all these years. I am a full time care giver for my mother so there is no opportunity to ever meet anyone. While shopping one day for groceries I met a nice man and we got into a conversation about food and juicing and he told me that he knew of a couple good books I should read on it. I gave him my email address and he contacted me to wish me a very Happy Thanksgiving. I am not interested in this person as anything other than a friend but I have to say it really made me feel good that someone I don't know would go out of their way to wish me a happy day!

HolyCow - He might have a friend you would be interested in! But even just as a friend, a kind gesture like that would make me feel valued and attractive. We all need that feeling. Good for you.

My mother came to the book group this evening - in the end I had to do emotional blackmail and say if you won't go I can't go it's not FAIR - but she had a WONDERFUL time! We hadn't read the book (she's got cataracts + stroke fallout; I got annoyed with it and hurled it aside after Chapter 2) but nobody cared, lots of other people hadn't either, the gossip was top quality and the two hours turned into three before we had to come home for an early start tomorrow. Can't wait 'til next month's meeting...

My mother has been so spiteful since my father's death three years ago, but she has suddenly started talking about how guilty she feels for the things she didn't do while he was ill. After 63 years of marriage, she just didn't believe my father would die. Knowing that Mother's anger is not really directed at me (most of the time) has helped me find a way to make her happier. She really was not strong enough to handle my Dad's needs, and my older siblings didn't handle them well either. She thought they could because they were older. There is a chance for peace between us which is so important for so many reasons. I am her main caretaker, and we both need and deserve to be happy. I guess things really do take time.

My MIL is actually looking FORWARD to her 3 1/2 week visit with her only remaining sibling/sister in AZ next month. She now tells everyone that it was 'her' idea to go - HA HA HA! I don't know why hearing her say that made me smile today - but it did.

Truth is the opportunity arose for her to stay WITH HER SISTER at her sister's glorious/elegant ALF in AZ and we jumped at the chance for her to visit her sister, have some fun and be looked after in grand style and we will enjoy a nice long break.

Of course, she told me just today that her youngest and his family are coming for a 'short visit' in a few days - have no idea when - on their way home from ELSEWHERE - and he does not communicate with US about anything.

I think I have decided NOT to be home. Think I will go shopping or go have my nails done. She can entertain them and THEY can take her out to eat. They only stay a couple of hours anyway and usually come when we are not home. Gotta love em. :0(

They NEVER let us know they are coming. Last time they called a half hour ahead. They were on their way home from down South and thought they'd stop and see mom while she was in the hospital - they stayed 2 hours.

I forgot to say that I check back here every so often because it cheers me up! We all need that. I am so glad that so many are able to find SOMETHING to smile about - even when things are grim. Hope the sun shines wherever you are! Do keep posting - it helps us all to appreciate the good things - they don't have to be big to give us a lift. ;0)

I am grateful that my 98-year-old father is very diligent and disciplined about keeping focused and exercising his body and mind. It isn't easy for him sometimes. He is also diligent about keeping a positive attitude. I deeply respect that.
