Recently a resident stated that I was supposedly rough & rude during continence care . Even though I’ve only ever attended to this resident once & she constantly states to team leaders & RN’s that it’s me everyday when I haven’t even attended to her at all . As I have an easy name to remember as it’s English , most I work with are of Indian , Sri Lankan & Asian which naturally their names are a lot harder to remember at all . This resident has also accused other residents of being in her room , even when no one has been at all . And complaining to their families about loved ones . Annoying their families for them having to state they’d be leaving in two days . Just to make this resident happy at the cost of another family . I’ve been moved , management haven’t said a word to me at all . To which I find extremely disappointing, as to me it means they believe this residents complaint . But this has false allegation as defamed me as a person & a carer called undue stress on me . Management supposedly have spoken without me being present & asked anything at all , and they’ve decided to move me to another section . As your just an number at the end of the day . Your not allowed to have any thoughts or feelings at all . I’m disgusted & appalled that the aged care sector has changed so much that resident & families can say harmful things even if they’re not true & theirs nothing , carers , nurses etc can do . It’s wrong that we constantly get , verbally , physically & emotionally abused & yes theirs incident reports that can be made but nothing ever comes of them . This behaviour continues at the cost of many workers . As some residents & their families show no respect at all .
They show all those ads how any type of abusive towards health care workers won’t be tolerated & it’s not ok . But that’s just a Band-Aid solution .
As the paperwork did Work Safe is unbelievable.
So most things from the health care sector from staff go unreported.
Maybe being an Australian has it’s drawbacks , as I’m in a very minor minority now . Is it really worth all the time & effort . It might be better just to look for another career .
Your last sentence spoke volumes to me. It appears that you are extremely dissatisfied with working in the caregiving field. I certainly understand this considering what you have been through.
Do you think that there would be a resolution to this situation if you were to go to your supervisors and ask if they listen to your side of the story?
Or are you absolutely sure that nothing would be done if you addressed your supervisors with your concerns?
Occasionally, the subject of cameras comes up in the forum. I’m in favor of cameras, not only for the residents but also for the employees.
Cameras are legal in our state. I don’t know if they are in your area, nor do I know your thoughts about them. Some people like them, others don’t. I think they would be helpful in many situations because a picture is worth a thousand words! The camera would show them that you are innocent.
In my mom’s end of life hospice care home there were cameras in every room and even the hallways. So the owner of the hospice organization could see exactly what was going on with the residents and the staff. Mom received excellent care from the hospice staff.
Think about what you want in your life and if it is staying in this field, then speak up about your concerns. You may decide to leave, and if you feel that is the best option, then move forward and put these incidents behind you.
Wishing you all the best in life. Take care.
