The doctors have not given any time limits like 3 months left. When do you ask for hospice help in your own home? When you definitely have no longer than 6 months left to live? Or does hospice help you get back stronger. Would insurance pay for it. This is so hard watching my husband get so weak over the last 3 months.

Ask for hospice from your doctors now. He is eligible and Medicare will cover it. The problem is so many people wait until the situation is deperate, but I've learned by researching this for my Mom, that as long as the patient is no longer pursuing treatments, you can have hospice. This is whether they have 2-3 weeks of make it another 2-3 years. Hope that helps.

I'm so sorry, what a heartbreaking situation you're in. I'm glad others are able to advise on hospice procedures, which I can't, but in any case it can't hurt to make a few phone calls and ask for advice. I hope you get to talk to somebody experienced and humane who can guide you through the process. Please keep posting.

Call his doctor and ask for hospice care. They may recommended a group in your area but you are free to interview different hospice groups to find the right fit.

If his doc thinks he has 6 mos or less hospice can start end of life care at home or in a facility. Depending on circumstances, hospice is covered by private ins or Medicare. Check out end of life and hospice on this site for good info. Also, people sometimes improve and leave hospice care and then return if needed.
